  • Do I need to have a driver's license?
Yes. All participants must have a current, valid driver’s license (NYS or out-of-state) without any suspension, revocation or DUI restrictions. ID cards and learner permits do not meet the state's requirements to participate.
  • Do I need to have a motorcycle permit?
A NYS motorcycle learner's permit is not required to participate in a Beginner course, however one will be required to meet the NYS DMV requirements for motorcycle licensing. For the Intermediate course, students must possess a valid NYS motorcycle permit and have a minimum of 40 hours riding experience with at least 10 hours of experience riding in medium- to high-volume traffic. For the Advanced course, students must possess a valid NYS motorcycle license and have a minimum of 1,000 hours riding experience in diverse traffic situations.
  • Is there a minimum AGE requirement to participate?
Yes. Students must be at least 18 years of age to participate. Exception for Beginner Classes ONLY: Students age 16 or 17 may participate IF they have a valid driver’s license AND a parent/legal guardian accompanies them to check-in on Day 1 and provides written authorization of consent . Without proper authorization, the minor will not be allowed to participate and no refund will be issued.
  • Is there a minimum HEIGHT requirement to participate?
Participants must be able to place both feet flat on the ground, therefore, the recommended minimum height for riding is 5'. If you're unsure whether you meet the height requirement, you can contact us BEFORE your register. We can schedule a fitting using one of our motorcycles to confirm your fit. There are no refunds if you register and are then unable to meet the height requirement at class check-in.
  • Is there a physical requirement to participate?
Students must be able to ride a bicycle and possess the physical stamina, mental alertness, motor skills and coordination necessary to safely operate a motorcycle, including the ability to stabilize and push the motorcycle from a standing position. If an instructor determines a student is unable to meet the requirements, the student will be counseled out of the class to ensure everyone's safety. There are no refunds when a student is counseled out or otherwise unable to complete the course.
  • Can I change classes after I register?
No. Once you've registered, switching to a different course or class date is NOT allowed. Double-check your schedule and course selection to confirm your availability BEFORE you register.
  • What happens if I have to cancel?
Students who fail to attend a scheduled session or cancel without proper notice, as outlined under the CANCELLATION POLICY, will not receive a refund or credit for the missed session. Once a class session begins, no refunds will be issued for any reason.
  • Will I receive my motorcycle license at the end of the course?
No. Only the DMV has authorization to issue a motorcycle "license". Students who successfully complete all of the requirements for a Beginner or Intermediate course, and earn a passing score on their final riding skills assessment, will receive a NYS Motorcycle Road Test Waiver Card. This card, when presented at a NYS DMV office along with a valid motorcycle learner's permit and valid driver's license, will serve as a waiver of the motorcycle road test and qualify for a motorcycle licensing endorsement.
  • What do I with my Motorcycle Road Test Waiver Card?
We recommend going to the DMV within 30 days of completing the course to commemorate your achievement! Schedule an appointment with the DMV to process your license waiver card and have your motorcycle licensing endorsement added to your driver's license. If you don't already have your motorcycle permit, make an appointment to take the written exam and obtain your motorcycle learner's permit. Most often, the DMV will process your newly-issued permit and road test waiver card that same-day. Make sure the DMW returns your Motorcycle Road Test Waiver Card so you can provide a copy to your insurance provider.
  • How long is my NYS Motorcycle Waiver Card valid?
In New York State, a motorcycle road test waiver card is valid for two years from the date of issue.
  • What happens if my motorcycle road test waiver card is lost, stolen or destroyed?
Contact the training provider: If you completed the course through Learn 2 Ride, you may contact us directly to request a replacement card. We can assist with completing the NYS Document Replacement Form and populating your course completion details from our records. Contact the NYSMSP: You can email the NY Motorcycle Safety Program, specifically Richard Doyle at rdoyle@nysmsp.org, providing in your email, your course completion details, including the date you took the course, class location and any other relevant information.
