MSF BASIC ridercourse
learn the basics
The MSF Basic RIderCourse is an entry-level program designed for beginners with limited motorcycle riding experience. The curriculum includes a 5-hour online learning module and approximately 10 hours of hands-on training over two-days, teaching new riders the fundamentals for safe and responsible motorcycle riding.
Safe riding requires focus, discipline, and sound judgment. Under the guidance of MSF-certified RiderCoaches, students participate in a sequence of riding exercises to learn the essentials of motorcycling - straight-line riding, smooth stopping, precise gear shifting, effective turning techniques, swerving, and emergency braking.
The course structure and performance standards are designed to ensure that every rider develops the skills necessary to ride safely and responsibly on public roads. There is no guarantee of successful completion. As students practice and meet each objective, they progress to the next exercise. Students who successfully complete the exercises and pass the riding skill evaluation qualify for a waiver of the NYS DMV Motorcycle Road Test.
